Viking Community Service Award - Established 2016

This award is given to a student or Alumni from Vincent Massey that has shown a tremendous, unselfish commitment to community service. The student goes above and beyond what is expected of them and they inspire others by their actions. This award was established to recognize the first recipient's (Nicole Ternowesky) goal to bring awareness to Military Mental Health issues by organizing a 22 push-up for 22 days campaign. The football players donated over $1000 of their own money for the cause in 2016.

Viking Commitment/Character Award/Oustanding Teammate - Established 2009

This award was established in 2009 and is given to the individual that goes the extra mile in and out of season and exmplifes the true meaning of CHARACTER. This individual understands that preparing for the rigours of football, is a year round effort and an essential element in player development. The Teammate award is given to Viking who selflessly gives of himself and does the thankless jobs that they may not  ask for but do willingly because they put the team before themselves.

Most Outstanding Lineman - Established 2000

This award is given to the player who either plays on the Offensive or Defensive Line. “Trench” players are often seen as the unsung heroes of any football team and therefore warrant their own award, as they are often looked over in favor of“skilled” positions.  The recipient must demonstrate characteristics that are becoming of a Viking.

True Grit Award - Established 2001

This award was established in 2001 and was created because of the inspired play of the first recipient Gavin Young.  Gavin was a relentless and determined fullback who paved the way fortailback Mitchell Ficek and protected quarterback Tim Feasby. He was an instrumental player who helped the team to a perfect 10 – 0 season.  Gavin performed the thankless and“Gritty” jobs and therefore this award was aptly named the True Grit Award.

The True Grit award is given to the player that consistently showed a remarkable level of grit on both the practice field and during games. The recipient does not have to be the most athletic player but they must display courage, determination and effort in the face of adversity.  The player must also show their commitment to do the difficult or unpopular tasks to help their team.  The recipient must demonstrate characteristics that are becoming of a Viking

Doug Steeves "All Heart" Award -Established 1999

in Brandon. He has spent a lifetime coaching football at both the high school and University level.  His commitment to the game of football has earned him membership into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.  He has coached many of the high school coaches in Brandon.  He is the reason why football flourishes in Brandon.  Doug Steve’s legacy continues everytime a young player puts on a pair of shoulder pads for the first time. The Doug Steeves’ award is given to the athlete that most exemplifies what it means to be a Viking football player.  They must be an excellent football player but more importantly theyneed to be young man of exemplary character.  They need to be a positive leader and team builder.  They will have had to demonstrate an exceptional amount of commitment and dedication to the team over 4 years.  This is the highest honor awarded by the team.
